Photographer's Note

A view from one of the windows of the famous castle Neuschwanstein, located in southern Germany. It is the most photographed building in Germany, so therefore I thought I would go against the norm and post a photo looking away from it! :)

Below if you look carefully you can see the small town of Schwangau, located next to Lake Alpsee. Just out of view (hiding behind a tree) is Schloss Hohenschwangau or Castle of the High Swan County.

Hohenschwangau Castle was built on the remains of the fortress Schwanstein, which was first mentioned in historical records dating from the 12th century. In 1829 Crown Prince Maximilian (the later King Maximilian II of Bavaria) discovered the historic site and reacted enthusiastically to the beauty of the surrounding area. He acquired the property in 1832 and began reconstruction of the Castle, which is what can be seen to this day.

What I really enjoyed about visiting these castles was not the actual castles themselves, but the magnificent scenery and landscapes. As you can see even my "cheap and nasty" camera was able to capture the natural beauty of this region.
