Photographer's Note

This is Thomaskirche (St Thomas Church) in Leipzig. The first church was built at this site in the early 13th century, but the current building is from 1496. Martin Luther preached in the church in 1539. Thomaskirche is also associated with composers such as Wagner and Mendelssohn, but most of all with Johann Sebastian Bach, who was cantor of St Thomas School, providing music for four churches in the city. He held the position from 1723 until his death in 1750.
