Berliner Stadtschloss

The new airport in Berlin is about to be opened after years of delay and here’s another building that after a long debate, lots of planning and years of building is almost finished. It is the Berlin Castle (Berliner Stadtschloss), of which I showed a more detailed photo earlier (https://www.trekearth.com/gallery/Europe/Germany/photo1588521.htm), but here is the entire building.

The palace used to be one of the largest buildings in Berlin and was the main residence of the House of Hohenzollern from 1443 to 1918. It was badly damaged in Allied bombings during WWII and subsequently demolished in 1950 by the East German authorities and replaced by their parliament, the Volkskammer in the Palast der Republik. It will be completed at the end of this year and become home of the Humboldt Forum, which will include several museums.
