Photographer's Note

This is an artwork of the German artist Karl Schlamminger. He named it "Pendelobelisk" (oscillationg obelisk). Schlamminger was born in 1935 and he lived and taught as a professor of arts many years in Istanbul and Tehran. There are sculptures of him all over the world, such as in Riad, Athens, Lisbon, London, Salt Lake City, Tehran ....
Schlamminger called it an oxymoron, a combination of two terms which actually are contradictory - an actually fixed obelisc and a kind of movement .

The obelisk, a steel structure built in 2003, is 27 metres high and the globe has a diameter of 3 metres. Several people together are able to alter the inclination of the obelisk a bit (+/- 3°).

There's an akin sculpture of Karl Schlamminger in Istanbul, built in 2001.
PS. Mesut, I hope you know it! ;-))
