Photographer's Note
A face in the crowd - a sense of pride in regional identity as a band plays from the balcony - a gathering where people have come to celebrate their own uniqueness and sense of community.....a face and an empty blurred space in the frame for feelings and thoughts to fill............

Hi Kev,
Nice. I get the feeling when I read the note. I can see myself standing there with pride as well, depending on my aging and the band playing.
Very nice!
Greetings and have a good weekend,
Dennis

Kev
Excellent portrait noir et blanc. J'aime beaucoup la composition avec cette grande place laissée devant le regard à la fois tendre, pensif et sage de cet homme. J'aurais bien aussi tenté une version carrée en coupant cette zone claire en arrière plan?

that space.... "that sense of community"... it's all there, it's all combined... exceptional use of dof...

Weird feeling...???
That blurry face in there...
It is her who is catching my attention...
It's been several times I am bumping into your photo Kev, and every single time it is HER to evoke my deep interest...!!!
Quite possibly - I am able to explain that phenomenon on my own from the photographic point of view - but I am too lazy to elaborate further on a subject...
Besides - it's Sunday - isn't it ?
So, screw it...! I'm going to enjoy my day with the blurry face on my mind...
Have a beer on me, Kev...

Kev, without any exageration, this is one of my favorite portrait on the site.
First, the tones you found in turning this one to b/w are so subtle, and yet contrasty enough. What's even better is the light softly touching hat, nose, cheek and chin. The emotion in his eyes...Even the texture on his hat...I like it all.
On top of that is the superb bokeh. The place where all of his ideas, feelings, thoughts are flying, floating.
cheers

Hi Kev. Clear, simple portrait, without disturbing, unnecessary details - I like it.
Best regards

Great illustration of a certain idea of France, however part of history now : he's got a Gaullian proeminent nose and the the cap to go with.
Lovely edge of light, like he was a visionnary of his time (another parallel with the big nosed guy), anchoring his inspiration into the huge blurry dark part of the image, which I guess is a metaphor of history and traditions.
That small small spark of light in his eyes is critical, worth a lifetime probably.
When I read your title, I can't help but taking the thickest french accent "It Hizz-eh whoooh I Hamm-eh! "
