The armistice signed November 11th, 1918 has ended the World War I 1914-1918.

Situated near the cathedral Saint-Fulcran of Lodève, the war memorial of Lodève was built from 1921, inaugurated in June, 1930, work of the sculptor Paul Dardé, been born on July 4th, 1888 to Olmet in the Hérault, and died in 1963 to Lodève in the Hérault. Classification by order of March 29th, 2005.

Dardé, stretcher-bearer during the war 1914-1918, expresses here his antimilitarism, and his aversion for the war which affects all the sectors of society.

War memorial détails.

In the head of the dead soldier, 4 widows women standing would symbolize the social differences and the four seasons. The knelt down widow mourns the dead soldier. Two orphan pupils, present branches of laurel.

LODEVE is a French commune, located in the departement of Hérault of Languedoc-Roussillon area, 7548 Lodévois populated in 2004, spread over 23.2 km², or 325.8 persons per km².

Located in the narrow valley of Lergue, a tributary of the River Hérault, at the foot of the Causse du Larzac before the "Pas de l'Escalette", the city Lodève is bypassed by the A75 motorway, a former National Highway 9, which connects Clermont-Ferrand, 290 km, Béziers, 65 km, Montpellier 55 km.
This city, episcopal until the French Revolution, was a royal textile centers of France under King Louis XV, and one of only two royal tapestry factory, the other being the Manufacture des Gobelins in Paris.
