Photographer's Note
The National Library of France, aka Bibliotheque François Mitterrand, is a stunning marvel of modern architecture. A tall forest of conifer trees grow from a deep-set courtyard that reaches some 60-70feet below the grate here. The books are stored in the glass towers, with wood panels that automatically open or close to allow access, but otherwise secure the books from the damaging rays of the sun. The effect is one that is unusually comforting and calming. The long escalators and vistas at all ends of the complex are stunning in their own way. I recommend a visit to anyone!
