Photographer's Note

In Chassaleuil, Auvergne, France, near Saint Paulien, about 20 km North of Le Puy en Velay, there is this tiny little chapel. Once used by the pilgrims of Santiago de Compostella (Saint Jacques de Compostelle), it is situated on the route between Lyon and Le Puy en Velay. These were once both starting cities to Santiago. Nowadays, Le Puy is the only city in which pilgrims ought to start their pilgrimage.

In the past, there were also some kind of hospitals along the route. Each hospital had its own chapel. The hospital in Chassaleuil however, has disappeared. The chapel on the other hand, is still there, and is still in use.
