Windmill of Beauregard, Marans

Action
The windmill of Beauregard, built at the 17th century, was in service until 1935. It was repurchased by the commune of Marans in 1994, and was restored in 1999.
_The windmills convert the kinetic energy of the wind into mechanical energy. It were used to actuate grinding stones, pumps, saws, etc...
The wings of the mill are supported by a tower, whose roof carrying the axis of the mill is directional in the case of the mill-turn.
If the whole tower is directional, one speaks then about mill on pivot or with candlestick. A typical mill of Anjou, compromised between the precedents, is called mill cavier. The orientation of the mill is done by pushing the tiller or tail of the mill.
The wings are generally in wood some and covered with canvas. The rotational movement of the horizontal axis of the mill is transmitted to a vertical axis by a whole of gears, the wheel, often manufactured out of wood of various species chosen for their resistance.
Action, The mechanism of Saint-Pierre-de-la-Fage windmill.
The windmill appeared in the East, Egypt and Iran. First mention of windmill in France, date of 1170, in a charter of the town of Arles. The Netherlands are probably the country which counted the greatest number of windmills.
The windmills were used incidentally as semaphores. Ansi, during the wars of the Vendée, the wings of the windmills of Mont des Alouettes indicated to Vendean the positions and movements of the republican troops.
MARANS is a French commune, located in the department of the Charente-Maritime of the Poitou-Charentes area, populated of 4375 Marandais in 1999, distributed out of 84 km², that is to say 52 hab./km².
The town of Marans, in country of Aunis, at door of the Marais Poitevin, marsh of poitou, is crossed by Sèvre-Niortaise river, and a dense network of canals.
Marans is the cradle of a hen race of quality sometimes known as, because of the color marked of its eggs, "la poule aux oeufs d'or", the Hen with the golden eggs.

A classic feature Joel, even if surrounded by suburban cottages - very clear and sharp with great colour.

Hello Joël,
A good capture of this windmill now seemingly surrounded by houses; I assume this wasn't always the case? It is ideally placed in the frame and the image has pleasing natural colours and good sharpness.

Bonjour Joel,

Bonjour Joel,
the windmill is fantastic! I have never seen such a charming architecture. It is really unique. The roof is really original.
You present it in a best possible way, slightly asymmetrically in the frame in a great light.
Excellent work,
