Notre-Dame of Old Pouzauges. (2 images).

Fresco of the 12th century. Presentation of Marie to the temple, Marie alone in front of the altar of the temple.

Romance church of the 11th 12th centuries, mentioned in the middle of the 11th century, with mural frescos of the same time. The unit is classified with the historic buildings.
The church in plan with Latin cross is surmounted by a bell-tower on its crossing. It is equipped with a long chorus with flat bedside and with a nave in broken cradle.

It is remarkable by its tomb stone pavement decorated with blazons, and especially by its FRESCOS of the 11th 12th 13th centuries, discovered in 1948, which represent scenes of the Christian tradition: The Old Testament, of the texts and the scenes of Gospel apocryphal books, and the medallions representing the months of the year, symbolized by the agricultural work.

One distinguishes there the sacrifice from Isaac by Abraham, and the arm retained by the angel. One can see God who reprimands Adam, separate of Eve by the tree of the knowledge of the good and the evil. One sees there also Caïn killing Abel, as well as esoteric representations of monsters.
A very long scene of Gospels apocryphal books, represents the dogma of the Immaculate Conception, reporting the history of Anne and Joachim, parents of the Virgin Mary: Appearance of the angel with Joachim, the elements of the childhood of Marie, the presentation of Marie to the temple, Marie alone in front of the altar of the temple, and Marie receiving the visit of the angel.
