Photographer's Note

One dark night barely lit up by very few stars, my nose was tickled by the perfume of chanterelles. Hmm ! So delicious !
So I picked up my courage and ventured out onto the country path... Oooh !! Hardly had I walked a few steps that a lady walked past, blinding me with her big torch. Honestly ! What manners !
I don't like that, so I hide my head in my prickly fur and I play dead...
I can hear the lady saying she is going to fetch her camera, adding I probably would have gone, by the time she comes back !
Pfff ! What machine was she talking about ?
In the meantime, I am frightened stiff, and I don't know what to do, torn between fright and the perfume of the chanterelles, so close …
Phew ! Here is mummy coming : ”Come on ! We are going home ! You will come back later for the chanterelles !”
Now the lady can come back with her camera ! I am under the protection of my mummy ! Then we hear her : ” Well, I never ! I thought I wouldn't find any hedgehog at all, but here are two of them : A little one and a big one !...”
She bothered us a little with her flashes, but she didn't harm us.
So, we went back home to sleep and we set the alarm (the one in our tummies) for dawn... We relished on the delicious mushrooms and then went back to finish our little sleep.
Mid-morning, the lady woke us up, but we were well-hidden in the dead leaves, so she didn't see us. Apparently, she wanted to know if we were still there.... And she would have liked to pick some chanterelles too, but after all, early risers have priority, don't they :-)
