Saint-Astier is a French commune in the département of Dordogne, region Aquitaine. Standing on the river Isle, it is located 100 kilometres to the east of Bordeaux and 20 kilometres to the west of Perigueux. It has a population of 5239 at the 2007 census; its inhabitants are known as Astériens.

The town and its name are linked to the story of one man, Astérius, the son of a Roman family born in the 6th century at Puy-de-Pont close to the present town of Neuvic. Legend has it that he became a hermit performing many miracles and giving the place a certain renown. When he died his tomb became a place of pilgrimage. In 980 a church was built to which the remains of the saint were transferred.
