Photographer's Note

This classic medieval village perché was built behind the coast to avoid Saracen attack. In 1537, it was re-ramparted, under François I, to stand up to Savoy, Austria and Piedmont. A celebrity village, it was first "discovered" by Bonnard, Modigliani and other artist of the 1920s. Since that time, many of the rich and famous literati and glitterati have flocked to St-Paul.
