Photographer's Note

The village of Saline-of-Giraud is located at the south east of the delta of the Camargue. Located out of Right Bank of the large Rhone, it counts approximately 2.080 inhabitants. The exploitation of salt is old there. But it is at the end of the XIXe century that the borough experienced a particular development with the establishment of two companies related to this activity, in addition causing a strong migration of labour. The vast zone of saline is of great ecological and landscape interest. The development of a small number of invertebrate species offers to the birds an abundant food which allows a single nesting in Europe, in particular of pink flamingos. With the great wild beach of Piémanson, or beach of Arles, and the gulf of Beauduc, Saline-of-Giraud offer with the commune a maritime frontage strong appraisal in summer season. Once passed and visited the small village of Saline of Giraud with his working pink brick houses (as there are some in England) one goes down towards the Saline ones. Beautiful point of view and small carpark with l' entry of the site d' exploitation. If you are likely to fall at the good moment, the marshes return pink, white colours or violets with laying down sun. When salt is collected leaving empty the marshes, there remain the salt mountains to be photographed.
