Photographer's Note
The picture is taken in the Court Henry du Capitole in Toulouse .
The name of this court is that the Capitouls decide to build a statue of King Henri IV . The polychrome marble statue of Thomas Hurtamat dating from 1607 is installed above the portal Nicolas Bachelier. But , it is replaced between 1799 and 1800 by Freedom and finds its place in 18155 . It consists of a black body armor and a crown of green laurel placed in a niche between two oculi and emblazoned capitouls white head. Under the statue , an inscription dating from the Revolution remains: " Live, all the people loved him . He wept when he was removed. Posterity will cease to love a pious love. "
Portal Nicolas Bachelier is a semicircular door . Above the arch is another name for Pallas the goddess Minerva and left a winged figure carries a stick on which was placed an owl and restoration since 1873 , a cross of Languedoc. At right is another winged figure brandishing a laurel wreath and a flowering branch .
On the floor of the court , a sealed slab recalls the execution by beheading of Henri II de Montmorency October 30, 1632 by order of Richelieu and Louis XIII. He was found to have participated in the uprising of the South against the royal power .
The Capitol building now houses the city hall of Toulouse and the Capitol Theatre . Its construction was decided by Capitouls in 1190 , to establish the seat of municipal power. This square is the heart of the city of Toulouse. It is the emblem of the city and is the location of municipal power for more than eight centuries. The Capitol is surrounded by Lafayette Street , rue d'Alsace -Lorraine and Rue Weight Oil . Formerly called the Common House , it consisted of a larger complex of buildings purchased, constructed and modified over the centuries as required. Today, the only remaining tower archives or Dungeon dating from the sixteenth century , the galleries of the court - Henri IV of the seventeenth century and the facade of the town hall of the eighteenth century.

Bonjour Magaly,
Meilleures salutations

Hello Magaly
This is a fine shot, with subtle tones, managed very well under difficult lighting conditions. You've succeeded in retaining detail in the deep shadows, while not bleaching out the highlights: astute PP work I should guess. The figure emerging from the archway is a necessary and important focal point. Nice one.

what a shot in monochrome which is the perfect suit for this frame, I think. The architecture is superb and the view with the man at bottom made it lively. Excellent work. Tfs.

Bonjour Magaly

Bravo.

Hello Magaly,
This is a fine b&w shot taken in difficult lighting conditions.
I love how the main thrust of the shot, the figure appearing through the arch, is preceded by the reflective, wet cobbles. It really highlights the entrance!
The details are sharp and accessible no matter whether in the shaded or the highlighted areas.
Have a good day,
Bev :-)

Beau site

Hi Magaly
lots of history here, an interesting read for sure. I think its a good thing that we dont allow beheading anymore though :)
I can appreciate the difficult circumstances you encountered when photographing this subject...maybe thats why you transfered it to monochrome?
It worked out well though, i reall like the light striking the ground in the middle, and the black surrounding it.
excellent subject and post for TE.
cheers

Bonjour Magaly,
You have written a very interesting and informative note and also given us a wonderful photograph with which to illustrate it.
Was amazes me about this picture is the amazing light and the fact that you have captured it so expertly. There are enormous contrasts in the picture, from very bright to very dark, and yet you have controlled your exposure perfectly so that we can see full details in the darkest shadows and also in the very brightest parts of the image.
Your composition is excellent and the inclusion of a man walking through the archway is a welcome addition, giving not only some human interest but also an very good sense of scale. The photograph works stunningly well in black and white and I love the reflections on the wet cobblestones. Perfect exposure and exquisite details and sharpness too - even at its full size of 1160 x 1500 pixels.
Beautiful!
Amicalement,
John.

Hello Magaly,
well chosen POV determines this original composition. I like the arch framing the lighter part of the image and the person walking through it. Very well given contrast and sharpness. The wet cobbles add to the slightly sentimental character of the photo.
Thanks for sharing and enjoy your day

Hello Magaly
I like the contrasts and tonal range in this black and white. you have also captured the lone figure framed by the arch and emphasised his place with the highlights on the cobbles too. Good shot.

Hallo Magaly,
versterkt.
foto extra levendig.
Met vriendelijke groeten,
