The Moulin du Rocher, windmill of the rock, built at the 19th century, probably around 1852. Right from the start it was a mill for plaster.

In Hérault, at the 19th century, after the disappearance of the cereal cultures to the profit of the vine, the mills were often used to crush plants or minerals, like the sulfur used for the vines, or the blocks of gypsum cooked for the manufacture of the plaster, as in Saint-Chinian.
The Moulin du Rocher, which on a calcareous wall several kilometers overlooks saint-Chinian, was rebuilt in a corn mill from 2000 to 2001.

The windmills convert the kinetic energy of the wind into mechanical energy. It were used to actuate grinding stones, pumps, saws, etc...
The wings of the mill are supported by a tower, whose roof carrying the axis of the mill is directional in the case of the mill-turn.
If the whole tower is directional, one speaks then about mill on pivot or with candlestick. A typical mill of Anjou, compromised between the precedents, is called mill cavier. The orientation of the mill is done by pushing the tiller or tail of the mill.
The wings are generally in wood some and covered with canvas. The rotational movement of the horizontal axis of the mill is transmitted to a vertical axis by a whole of gears, the wheel, often manufactured out of wood of various gasolines chosen for their resistance.

Action, the Saint-Pierre-de-la-Fage windmill.

The windmill appeared in the East, Egypt and Iran. First mention of windmill in France, date of 1170, in a charter of the town of Arles. The Netherlands are probably the country which counted the greatest number of windmills.
The windmills were used incidentally as semaphores. Ansi, during the wars of the Vendée, the wings of the windmills of Mont des Alouettes indicated to Vendean the positions and movements of the republican troops.

SAINT-CHINIAN is a French commune, located in the department of Hérault of the Languedoc-Roussillon area, populated of 1777 Saint-Chinianais in 1999, distributed out of 23 km², that is to say 77 hab./km².

One finds near Saint-Chinian, schists 570 million year old, rich in trilobites fossil.
Secondary and Jurassic time, there remain fossils of dinosaurs, eggs and bones.
One finds dating from the prehistoric times, polished stone axes and megaliths.

The vine growing whose local orignine goes back to the 8th century, product of excellent wines A.O.C., "Appellation d’Origine Contrôlée", controlled designation of origin.

Un point de vue bas très bien choisi , pour cette composition bien pensée où la branche de pin fait un excellent second rôle . De belles couleurs naturelles de la garrigue en hiver .

Bonjour Joël,

Les arbres cadrent bien le moulin. La prise de vue du bas ver le haut donne de la profondeur à la composition. Elle permet aussi de voir les détails et les couleurs de l'architecture du moulin. Une lumière douce qui a un bel effet sur les couleurs. Bonne soirée.

Superbe moulin perdu dans la garrigue. La contre plongée montre bien la végétation environnante et le moulin ressort magnifiquement sur le ciel bleu. On apprécie plus la taille de celui-ci sur le Workshop.

Bonjour Joël,

Ce n'est pas le premier moulin que tu nous présentes, j'ignorais que le Languedoc en autant. Habitant assez près des Pays-Bas, c'est plutôt là-bas que j'ai l'habitude d'en rencontrer.
J'aime la présentation que tu en fais avec cette contre-plongée et surtout le petite sentier qui grimpe la colline et qui évoque la duréte du travail d'autrefois quend il fallait hisser les sacs de grain vers le moulin. Très belle lumière également qui fait bien ressortir le moulin.
Une autre très belle mise ne valeur du patrimoine rural de ta région.

This is a nicely composed shot taken from a nice low POV. The curving path leads the eye into the shot nicely. The off center placement of the windmill works well giving the photo a nice sense of direction. The foreground tree limb provides nice framing and depth for the shot.

excellent cadrage de ce moulin à contre plongée sous une lumière idéale, avec cette branche de cet arbre, on a même l'impression qu'elle bouge de par le vent peut être de ce jour là!
un petit moulin qui a du charme, qui a servi pour de multiples utilisations et qui est encore bien conservé

I like this windmill which looks like a toy from this low point of view! you smartly used the tree branch to create a very well balanced composition and to cover the empty space in the sky :)

Je possède une diapo de ce moulin mais mon scaner n'est pas de bonne qualité.
Ton point de vue en contrebas met bien en évidence le moulin de pierre.
Dans le Loiret ils sont tous en bois.
