Photographer's Note

Small district located over the Canal du Midi. Somail is not a whole town, but divides the territories of Ginestas, Sallèles-d'Aude and Saint-Nazaire- d'Aude. Dug by Pierre-Paul Riquet to connect the Atlantic to the Mediterranean, the Canal du Midi crosses the territory of Ginestas on 3 km. The New Bridge of Somail was built 1773 which is built with three different stones, limestone, basalt and sandstone. Another originality: At the 18th century, the mail boats circulated regularly on the Canal spent four days to make the course between Agde and Toulouse. The stations of relay were in Somail, Trèbes, Catelnaudary and Négra.
