Photographer's Note

Located on the Western slope of Corsica, Propriano is a small piece of paradise nested in the heart of the Valinco Gulf.

It is here that Sampiero landed in 1564 to reconquer Corsica. There were Turkish and Barbarian incursions during all the XVIth and XVIIth centuries. At the end of the XVIIIth century, the village had practically disappeared (4 houses listed in 1794). Since the middle of the XIXth, Propriano developed in a spectacular way : 150 inhabitants in 1850, more than 2000 in 1910.
This expansion continues today with tourism. After the last census of the population, Propriano counts 3222 inhabitants.

The Gulf of Valinco is perhaps the most beautiful gulf on the west coast of the island. Propriano, the principal town of the region, has a pretty, busy port.
