Photographer's Note

In Chausey Islands, in Normandy, you find the most important tides in Europe. In spring and autumn, they are even more important and at low tide, the archipelago becomes a paradise for shellfish pickers.

Here a picture taken during the september 2005 tide (with more than 13 meters difference in water height between high and low tide), a man picking clams with an "official" tool (clam fishing is tightly regulated, both for the tools that can be used and the size of the shellfish that can be collected).
