The Quarter Horse is a breed of horse native to the United States, originally selected on his speed on racing sprint a quarter mile, hence its name. This is the most widespread breed in the United States and most exported worldwide.
The breed comes from Spanish horses, beards, and Arab introduced to America by the conquistadors and European settlers. It was then enhanced by influx of English thoroughbred blood. He was employed by the Americans of the eighteenth century for racing 440 yards (400 meters) on the streets of their cities, where the name first of Quarter Running Horse or Quarter Horse Quarter Miler then. It was then one of the favorite horses of the conquest of the West, where his image strongly related to westerns. In fact, it is now very popular in Western equitation.
