Photographer's Note

This is an early autumn shot from my archives showing a small sauna built into an island in Espoo archipelago. The sauna is built very near the water line, which is actually not allowed for new saunas according to present regulations. They should be built a little further from the water. It is always a joy to have a swim after a bath in sauna. If the water is cold, returning back to the heat of sauna feels great.

This sauna belongs to a summer cottage, which is not visible in this photo. I have placed the map point into the position of the sauna.

In Finland there are 2 million Finnish saunas. 1.2 million of these are in private homes or summer cottages, whereas the rest are in swimming pools, health spas, and other public locations.

You can read more about Finnish sauna here.
