Photographer's Note

Unlike the two famous Western Bohemian spa towns, Karlovy Vary and Marianske Lazne, the much less well known Frantiskove Lazne (Franzensbad in German) is far more of a resort for Czech's than foriegn tourists, and retains much of it's original character. Like most of the Czech Republic, atractive old buildings have been tastefully restored, and new block paving has been laid in the pedestrianised streets, but other than that it remains much as it was. The town centre with tea houses, guest houses, a bandstand with a regular concert, largely for old folk who come to take 'the cure', as in the photo. The other part of the resort is park with walks around a lake, with facilities for swimming and boating, and the usual kind of resort activities, which tends to be for families with children.
