Photographer's Note

Looking at my photo archive mostly consisting of old churches and castles, you may not believe me that I'm a big fan of modern architecture, but I am. That's why I was so pleased and surprised to see so beautiful functionalist house in Benešov during my visit of the town in Sunday. I was even more surprised to learn it is a work of Otakar Novotný, who designed some famous functionalist and cubist buildings in Prague, e.g. the well known Mánes Gallery.

The house in the picture is a former savings-bank, Novotný designed it before 1926. The building was finished in 1929. What I like most, besides its exceptionally clean style, is how it nicely blends with neighbouring neo-historic houses.

You can see the building also on my yeasterday's photo captured in different angle.
