Photographer's Note
Part of the John Lennon Wall, Velkopřevorské náměstí (Grand Priory Square), Malá Strana, Prague.
Since the 1980s this wall has been filled with John Lennon-inspired graffiti and pieces of lyrics from Beatles' songs. The wall is owned by the Knights of Malta (which I find bizarre), who allow the graffiti to continue on the wall. On 17 November 2014, the 25th anniversary of the Velvet Revolution, the wall was painted over in pure white by a group of art students, leaving only the text "wall is over" [sic]. The Knights of Malta initially filed a criminal complaint for vandalism against the students, which they later retracted after gaining contact with them. The wall mural is still there as of Dec 6, 2014. And the "Wall is Over" bit has been changed to "War is Over". I wonder if anyone can show us what the wall looks like in 2015...

Hello Will,
Probably this will get the unofficial prize for most colorful photo of the day. It's an interesting and slightly bizarre wall with a peculiar history. Did you know that in Vilnius, Lithuania, there is a statue, or at least a bust, of Frank Zappa?
Regards,
Gert

Bonjour Will,
Il est un peu surchargé ce mur, mais on ne peut pas faire autrement que de l'admirer dans tous ses détails.L'ensemble est d'une superbe netteté et jouit d'une belle lumière.
Amicalement

I agree with you Will; it is totally bizarre that the Knights of Malta own this tribute to the late (and great) John Lennon. A colourful confection of graffiti and something one could spend hours looking at. I note Gert's comment wrt Frank Zappa. Now that is seriously strange.
warm regards

Hi Will
"How bizarre", I thought (in Polish) when I read about the Knights of Malta being the owners of this wall... then I saw you expressed exactly the same opinion in brackets. :-)
Eye-catching colourfull post and interesting note! Thank you for sharing, I've never seen that piece of art before.
Have a nice evening

Hello Will, how ya goin?
What what a load of walls! We could stamp our images of walls on bricks and build a TE wall... "all across the universe" at the side of a "long and winding road"...
Sorry, just had a made one due to the heat...
In Melbourne they have graffiti on walls, known locally as "The Lanes" which is a bit of a tourist draw... I haven't taken a shot of them yet since they are plastered all over postcards having been given the HDR treatment and they seem pretty "Camden Town Market" type tat to me. Plus, I'd only take a shot of them if I could do something weird with it so it would never make it onto TE anyway.
I'm with Gert in as much as your shot does put me in mind of the Zappa album Tinseltown Rebellion... it's a ripper, mate! The sun's face also puts me in mind of the Tears for Fears album, "sowing the seeds of love#2...
Oz... well it is very Americanised and somewhat underwhelming in many ways... but I'm enjoying my time here... I haven't found a good enough reason to stay long term yet though, especially since they charge 10 dollars for a pint of Guinness due to Abbot putting tax up on alcohol 3 times last year... on the plus side fuel is one dollar a litre - about 60p. Worse than the price of the beer is the fact that they serve it in "pots" (or half pints) with pints being the exception rather than the rule, which really is not right on any level... emasculation of the Aussie male seems complete on that score...
Take care...
Mike

Hi Will,
If I visit Prague, I will! But surely someone will forestall me!

Hello Will,
I enjoyed reading the note which makes the photo even more interesting. It is the type of picture that I can linger on as I try to make out the words and symbols. Well caught colours and a nice tight presentation.
Kind Regards, Ann

Hello Will,
I have been to Prague 3 times last year and never saw this wall. I must look for it next time I am in Western Europe! Bright, colourful, and cheery. Good sharpness and effective tight framing. I like the repetition of the yellow stars. Strong warm cold colour contrasts between the yellow, red and blue. Tfs!
