Photographer's Note

The monastery is located at the north slopes of the Rhodope mountains. It is named after the name of the nearest village of Muldаva. The monastery is located at the distance of about 20 km. from Plovdiv. Turks three times destroyed the monastery, sprung up at the end of the Second Bulgarian country (In the period of the Ottoman rule). Later Bulgarian patriots renewed the Muldаva monastery. The preserved founder inscription from 1836 – the last year of its renovating prove it. With its architecture decision the “St. Petka Muldаvska” has very impressive aspect. The residential buildings are two – storey with open verandahs and high stone walls that surround the big monastery yard. The monastery temple was erected by stones, but after the renovating, the old west wall and the entrance was still preserved. The inner walls were painted by the master from the Tryavna school. The inner decoration of the temple is opulent with scenes from the bible life.
