Photographer's Note
Atop the hill south of Mostar is a giant Croatian cross, which could be interpreted as brinkmanship. If you look carefully at the left side of the river, the Croats drink Croatian beer, read Croatian newspapers and live in new apartments, and go to new schools and offices. On the right is the much poorer Muslim quarter where many still await new housing, new roads, and new schools. Partially bombed buildings pepper the eastern side of town on the right. They are practically different countries. A sad legacy of the disintegration of the former Republic of Yugoslavia.

Hello Chris,
In 2010 there were scars of the war all over the city, regardless of Muslim or Croatian side. It's hard to tell the changes five years later from this distance, but I have a feeling I can see a number of houses looking quite new on the Croatian side. What a pity I didn't come here so I could have made a comparison. It's a great view but climbing this hill in July must have been tough. Maybe there was Croatian beer available at the top.
Regards,
Gert

Bonjour Chris,
L'étendue de la ville donne de la profondeur à la composition. La prise de vue permet de voir les détails des montagnes. La lumière rehausse les couleurs de l'image. Bonne journée.

Greeting.
A beautiful valley with houses with white facades and red roofs, well shown with beautiful colors, contrast, perspective and good text.
Beautiful green trees, city and mountains.
I wish you all the best.

Hello Chris,
I suppose when you write about Croats you mean the Bosnian Croats or Herzegovinian Croats and not the citizens of the Republic of Croatia. That could hardly be otherwise, as the border between the two countries is not close to Mostar.
Is this part of Bosnia and Herzegovina then financially helped by the neighbouring Republic of Croatia? Or was the territory of the Bosnian Croats not so devastated during the war?
I can understand a Bosnian Croat reading a newspaper in Croatian, so in his own language. No idea whether you meant a newspaper from the neighbouring republic or a newspaper from Bosnia written in the Croatian language. I can also imagine that the Muslims don't drink Croatian beer since they probably just don't drink beer.
That doesn't mean that I would agree with the economic decline of a group of residents.
I myself live in a federal country with different cultures and consider certain differences in lifestyle as normal.
But solidarity is a basic necessity for the proper functioning of a country and the well-being of each subgroup.
BTW, excellent panorama picture.
Best regards, Paul

Hello Chris,
This high viewpoint offers a stunning view of the area and the valley with the city in between the hills. The pleasant sunlight rendered the colours appealing and natural. Good work.

hello Chris, Splendid view of Mostar from the hill above. From houses are more densely built. I was in Mostar in 1968, so quite a long time before the devastating war, when the old bridge (I think it is visible here) was old.
Best regards Malgo

Hello Chris,
I had no idea that there was such segregation in Croatia! I remember well the brutality of the war, which was so sad and well reported on the news channels.
Your photograph shows how the city has expanded across the river valley and disappears mysteriously in the curve.
The inclusion of the f/g hill has given a good sense of depth to your scene.
My warm regards,
Bev :-)

Hi Chris,
spectacular panoramic view of this famous town. When I visited Mostar I was wondering how great it would be to venture up the hills for the view. Although it was extremely hot when I was there.
Beautiful work,
M

Interesting photo and story about my hometown, very rare view.
Nice story, a small addition, a part of problem with many house on east side (right) is their ownership, private homes or many stores owned by today not existing companies. At same 90% of all worth visiting in Mostar is on east side.
Thanks!
Brano
