The bridge is named after a Arslan-aga, who ran away from Herceg Novi, after being, in 1687, occupied by the Venetians. He was the Ottoman government granted the concession to collect toll, so he built a house next to the bridge, close to it later grew the whole village called Arslanagić, which is now submerged.
During World War II in 1943. Most mined Chetniks who so wish to stop the partisans. Fortunately not all mines exploded and only the left wing of the bridge was damaged, so it was repaired quickly after that.
After the construction of hydroelectric power station and dam lake - in 1965. bridge was submerged, but in the following year, water level was lowered to be able to disassemble the bridgr, stone by stone. It has long been so disassembled lying in a nearby field, and then between 1970 and 1972 it was again raised, this time 10 km downstream almost in the center of Trebinje. Since then is one of its biggest attractions.
