‘Heverlee - Watermill in Arenberg Park’

My previous photo showed the Arenberg Castle.
Just next to the castle you will find this protected watermill on the river Dyle (Dijle in Dutch).
The oldest mention of the water mill dates from 1286, making it one of the oldest mills in Flanders.

The mill was recently restored. But this restoration was purely aesthetic. It will no longer be able to work as a water mill because this would require adjustments to the flow of the river, which could have harmful consequences for, among other things, a nearby nature reserve.

In the background you can see Arenberg Castle.

Heverlee is a sub-municipality of Leuven, the capital of the province of Flemish Brabant.
