Maldegem Meersen

Lovely nature area.

The area that lies low and where regular beautiful fog fields arise
There is a large diversity of soils in the area according to the Soil Map of Belgium (Ameryckx, 1958, 1965 and 1968). In the lake area these are mainly peat soils (eastern part) and strongly slippery sand loam soils and clay soils without a profile (western part). In the Maldegem lakes, the peat rests on a layer of marsh lime 20 to 40 centimeters thick, under which there is sandy lime-containing material. A pleistocene sand ridge consisting of dry sand bottoms is centered in most of the day. The field is mainly characterized by wet sand loam bottoms without a profile.
