Brussels' cuisine continues to use recipes which were created in Medieval times, with mustard, vinegar, beer and a wide range of spices. A standard Brussels restaurant menu includes various types of fish, seafood and game. Vegetables are another important element, with potatoes being of primary importance.

Lunchtime and dinnertime in Brussels are quite typical for a northern European country. Lunch is usually eaten around 1 to 3pm, and dinner around 7 to 8pm. Breakfast and dinner are normally quite light, while lunch is considered the most important meal of the day. At lunchtime and in the evening, restaurants usually offer cheap plat du jour deals and fixed-price menus. Prices at Brussels' restaurants vary widely. A simple lunch at an informal eatery shouldn't exceed 10 to 13 Euro, while a full dinner with dessert and wine at one of the city's culinary gems can total 200 Euro. Some say that whatever the price range, it's just impossible to eat badly in the capital of Belgium.
