This is the second picture out of the series boat and music on water, Ghent as city has always something specially for tourists.
This spectacle can everyone see in a real Middle Ages area middle in the city centre

The City Archive keeps the kilometer-long archive of the city of Ghent. The oldest piece dates from 1178, the most recent from 2005. The City Archive shall make these documents available to the researcher.
The old archive is from the 12th century to 1796 and is one of the main urban archives of Western Europe. In the modern archive is the operation of the city administration after 1800 saved.
There is also an extensive art collection of drawings, engravings (engraved print of a wooden or metal plate), watercolors (paintings in watercolor), postcards, photographs and posters.

An image very well composed with the sympatic bota in the FG and the beautiful Ghent's houses in the BG. Very good contrats in the FG, I like too the flowers which give interesting coloured elements.

The Flemish version of the gondola! The very interesting detail are the spiky pieces of wood on the side of the boat, which I can only explain as preventers to avoid dumping into the pier. But perhaps you have a better explaination.
And the facades of the buildings behing are superb.

ik denk dat Gent als oude stad heel goed kan wetijveren met bv Brugge,wwat een geweldige blik op de rivier en de koopmans en gemeentehuizen.
De gondelier lijkt wel een beetje Venetie.

I will never tire of photos of the old centre of Ghent. And this is yet another fine one from you. It has an almost Venice-like atmosphere to it, with the boatman steering the boat from the rear. Great angle of view, and rich colours, plus strong light and shadow. Great wide angle view of those marvellous buildings beside the river.

Buitengewoon mooie foto ! Echt wel een plaatje dat mensen kan aansporen om Gent te bezoeken.
De compositie is perfect met de roeispaan links onder en de hoogste geveltoppen in de rechter bovenhoek.
De foto is kleurrijk en toont de prachtige oude architectuur te samen met het leuke ontspanningselement, het bootje waarop de muzikanten verwacht worden.

Hallo John. Heute zeigst Du ein Motiv wie aus dem Bilderbuch. Das Photo zeigt viele Details. Ich habe solche Boote mit Stühlen nicht in Ghent vermutet. Ohne die Häuser im Hintergrund hätte ich an Italien gedacht. Insgesamt ein schönes Photo, - in gewohnter meisterhafter Qualität. Gruß, Wolfgang.

The boat in the foreground is helping to frame the scenery. The point of view is leading my eyes toward the buildings which is giving depth to the composition. It is also allowing me to see the details and colors of the buildings and of the boat. The afternoon light is enhancing the colors. Have a good weekend.

Hi John wonderful shot that seems to be lost in a different time with now evidence of 21st century man.

Bonsoir John,

Il faut certainement avoir une certaine dextérité pour manier cette grosse gondole, surtout quand on voit la pagaie qui la fait avancer !!! Et attention qui s'y frotte s'y pique, étonnant ces bouts de bois acérés sur la coque qui doivent remplacer le traditionnel pneu je pense. Une belle photo sur ces festivités avec un bon traitement de l'image. Ces architectures sont vraiment exceptionnelles, merci John.

Hallo John,

Op het eerste gezicht dacht ik even dat je in Haarlem op bezoek was geweest. Dit had gezicht vanaf het Spaarne kunnen zijn. Zo gek is dat ook weer niet, want o.a. heeft de Vlaamse architect Lieve de Key zijn stempel op deze stad gedrukt.

I visited Gent 1 mounth ago, before celebration of music on the water... a nice town, also if there are many works in action on the roads, not so good to turisme.

This is a nicely composed shot with the foreground placement of the boat. The angle of the shot is great giving the scene a good sense of direction. The lighting and colors are great and the photo has excellent sharpness and DOF.

Great photo, you've captured a bit of Venice in Belgium. Love the composition that features the boat but still shows off that classic architecture as it stretches down the waterway. The colors are strong but natural, and the resolution appears crisp. I really like this one John. Bravo!

I can see extremely attractive buildings..... a beautiful boat with flowers, only the colour of the water is a bit detrimental.
However the photo is great, I like the distribution of the elements in the foreground and the background.

this is an exquisite picture, the word perfect is also flashing in my mind:) I could apply it to many parametres of your image, like the clarity, sense of depth, arrangement of perspectives, light management, colour and texture definition.
