‘Villers-la-Ville - Abbey church of Villers Abbey - 2’
Continuation of my photos of the church in Villers Abbey.
This time, I feel confident in my choice of main photo :)
About the church https://villers.be/fr/vlog/eglise-abbaye-villers says:
The first stones of the church were laid in 1197 on the initiative of Abbot Charles de Seyn.
First in Romanesque style, then Gothic.
The construction of the church lasted 86 years.
The dimensions were commensurate with the religious faith of the Cistercian monks: 94 m long, 42 m wide and 23 m high. Equipped with oculi, also called ‘windows of the soul’, and 8 side chapels, the building testified to the power and aura of the abbey.
Dramatic but in 1794 during the French Revolution when the monks were chased away, the church was sold to a material merchant who dismantled it piece by piece.

Hello Paul,
I tend to agree with your choice this time. I was attracted by these round windows the first time I saw them. They are nicely complemented by the walls on the long sides. But you also made good use of the typical Gothic shaped windows in WS #1 with nice views through them and fine details seen on the columns in the foreground.
Best regards,
Gert

Bonjour Paul,
Ces ruines sont impressionnantes. La prise de vue permet de voir les détails de cette partie des ruines de l'église de l'abbaye de Villers. La lumière rehausse la beauté des couleurs. Bonne journée.

Hello Paul, it's great for a photographer like you that there is so much of the architectural details still remaining, as in the beautiful circular windows here.
With the blue sky backdrop, their perfectly round shape shows so clearly.
I like the workshop picture where the arched windows are frames for the view that is the setting for the abbey.
I have enjoyed this series of shots, thank you.
Kind regards, Jean.

Hallo Paul,

Hi Paul,
I start to become jealous.
I have to travel around the whole England to get a decent collection of the ruined abbeys and you achieved it by one local trip in Belgium. Maybe I should move to another country again?...
These are amazing ruins here, The round windows always make me think about a boat windows.
Great composition with the upper part closed by the ruins as well. Perfectly planned and executed, and you see why having the blue sky is essential for photographing the ruins.
Excellent quality work,
M
