Dear Scottish and English friends, I place special this photo for you.
I brought the last weekend a visit to Bruges with the bus, no bike, to far.

History of the picture:

The oldest Meebrug and picturesque Peerdenbrug.
What I can tell you is that the Meebrug is the oldest bridge. Originally (in 1290) there was in that place a wooden bridge, Meebrug as she looks now dates from 1390 and is being restored.
The second oldest bridge still remaining, is located a few 100 meters and also brings about the Groenerei, it's the Peerdenbrug. The first mention of a wooden bridge called Peerdenbrug found it in writings from 1392, the bridge as you see them now dates from 1642.
If you have some time reading then certainly a stroll along the picturesque Groenerei in and walk over two bridges, really worth it.
Between the 14th century and now there are many bridges built, two of the most recent two pedestrian bridges are designed for Bruges Cultural Capital of Europe, which was in 2002.

Prachtige foto van Brugge. De gracht en het beroemde belfort zijn heel mooi te zien in dit fijne licht en tegen de donkere wolken. Uitstekende compositie met fijne lentekleuren in de bomen.

So many people have told me that this city is so beautiful and your photos really back that up. This scene is idyllic, is not easy to capture such calm in an urban setting. Wonderful rich colours too

The length of the canal is giving depth to the composition. The point of view is showing the details of the bridges and of the houses. I like the effect of the cloudy sky on the colors. Have a nice day.

Hallo John,
Een prachtfoto die één en al Brugge uitstraalt.
Met uitzondering van de voorgrond oogt het als een mooi schilderij.
De bladeren aan de takken zeggen ons dat het al lente is doch op de cruciale plaatsen zijn er nog geen zodat we een goed zicht krijgen op de achterliggende huizen en torens.
De donkere lucht toont ons goed hoe het weer de laatste dagen geweest is. Hopelijk komt er weldra beterschap. De maand april was kouder dan de voorbije decembermaand.
Opvallend weinig toeristen op deze foto. Misschien zochten ze allen elders de warmte op.
Uitstekende compositie, scherpte en toch nog een heel helder beeld.

No bicycle!
That must be a first!
Still, walking around Bruges is a great treat whether you arrive on a bicycle or on a bus!

No wonder the man is gazing in wonderment! He is showing the appreciation that most people show when visiting this beautiful city for the first time! I like how you have positioned him in your frame and used him so well to focus on the architecture.
The bridge makes a very natural link between the two parts of the shot, though it is very interesting in its own right.
These beautiful, old buildings look to be parading their individuality with excellent clarity, whilst the light and the natural colours accentuate their appearance.

It's a lovely shot, John.

Including a person always adds interest, as we look to see what the man is looking at.

Interesting autumnal appearance of this scene, being Spring. I also like the zoom effect because of the focal lenght.
Of course the sky is superb with these gray tones. Good work as usual.

I have to say, you keep impressing me with all the wonderful and charming views in Belgium. I feel like this is a country I have to visit sooner than later.

love the atmosphere, love the arched bridge, love the vines on the homes, and the buildings themselves are so picturesque.

Hello John,

It looks like a watercolor painting. Perhaps a slightly faster shutter speed to avoid motion blur of the people? Good sharpness otherwise and the bridge makes a fine focal point. The yellow green ivy contrasts well with the grey blue sky. Tfs!

This city obviously offers endless possiblities to photographers. Here you show us a wonderful and not so crowded corner of this wonderful city. The photo is another proof that good photos definitely are possible without sunshine - and this vivid sky here really adds a lot to the scenery. I like how the famoius belfry is silhouetted against it. A photo really to look at a bit longer.

Ik zie dat je er ondanks het niet zo fraaie weer toch weer op uitgetrokken bentg om nieuwe schitterende foto van het Vlaamse stad en land the maken voor ons. Gelukkig zijn de voorspellingen voor de komende week goed.

Hello John, Buses are also good. I do not ride a bike, so I must use the buses. Charming view from Brugge. it is lovely city, so wherever you go, in each corner there is something nice. Pleasant colours of the early spring. I like the creeper on the wall.

I am glad to hear that you are making fresh photos outdoor already. Great news!
This is a spectacular view. I like the composition very much. This tower is of course so familiar to me although I have never seen it with my own eyes. et the angle is quite original I would say. Including the two bridges makes a lovely foreground. On top of the great composition the mood is quite extraordinary here. The light was quite challenging. English weather I suppose.
Fantastic outcome though I really admire the final effect.

A wonderful composition, which in this cloudy day acquires a special charm, which resembles a painting, superb facades that line the canal, both the bridge and the tower are two main elements to embellish the whole.

A gorgeous and touchy scene from old Europe, love such places and always trying to find them when I have a chance to travel to Europe. They have cozy spirit, calming atmosphere, quietness and feeling of history, understanding of how many people walked on these streets, bridges and cobbled paths throughout centuries. I can be there for hours, meditating and saturating every cell of my body with their romance, spirit and history.
