Indeed, it is close to Saint Jacob's church. The street is called "Vette Vispoort" (you can see the "V", "E" and part of the "T" painted on the white wall). It means "Gate of Greasy Fish" and it was the place back in the middle ages where fishmongers would sell their fish along the canal. The houses themselves are called "Godshuizen", which were houses for the poor and needy built by charitable institutions in the middle ages. As a result the houses are very small, but the recent boom in house prices in Bruges has made them desirable for those wanting a little place of their own in the center of town.

This street also plays an important role in novels by Flemish crime writer Pieter Aspe, as the protagonist "Inspector Van In" actually lives in the "Vette Vispoort".

Une belle tchote ruelle comme on les aime... L'image est bien cadrée et bien exposée, c'est un régal cher ami ;o) Dommage que la partie basse soit un poin sous-exposée, mais c'est pas très grave. Bien vu !
