Photographer's Note
Another portrait of a beautiful Mayan girl at Chichicastenango. I have cropped the photo so that her right eye is on centerline of the frame (vertical). See the discussion of this in the last critique of one of my portraits. Indeed in this case the cropping in this way greatly enhanced the effect of the portrait. I chose to crop her left shoulder putting her right eye on center as the splash of color on her right shoulder is nice. I am indebted to TrekEarth User BATALAY for his suggestion to use this technique.

Hello Chris,
Another surpassing portrait. You've captured the soul of the young Mayan girl in the exquisitely composed and exposed shot. All the elements of good portraiture — composition, light management, colors and resolution — collaborate. I'm flattered you cited my small contribution, but there is little doubt the centerline principle works. Moreover, as the great German physicist Werner Heisenberg once observed, "Never underestimate how much pleasure it gives a man to see/hear what he already knows." Well I've been in Guatemala a couple of times, visiting the ruins of Tikal and other places, and I've seen the gentle and warm Maya people — they exude a character far removed from the hostile and violent one associated with their distant past.
