This Mayan beauty was taken at Chichicastenango in Guatemala. Since one visits ChiChi usually for the market day and there is so much to photograph with activity everywhere, it is often difficult to get that "one" shot in the jostling crowd. I spotted this girl from the steps of the church and ran down and managed to convince her to let me shoot her. I have learned in successive trips to ChiChi just to concentrate on the faces with a little splash of colour somewhere in the portrait. THere is so much colour in everything you photograph in ChiChi it often overwhelms the photograph. This shot has just the right balance for me. Despite my pleas for a smile, I was only able to get a stoic expression!
