Photographer's Note

The statue of the Republic is a bronze sculpture, gilded in gold leaf, located in the center of the spacious Lost Steps Hall, just below the dome of Havana's Capitol. It has a total height of 17.54 meters, making it the third largest indoor statue in the world. It is the work of the famous Italian sculptor Angelo Zanelli, who was very famous for the works he had made at that time in Rome. I wanted to make a bold composition, which was violent in its perspective, because the gilt of the statue is still very bright. Therefore, I decided to attenuate it with the values of the dome and its geometrical structure of arches and cassettes. You have to wait until time passes and the gold leaf oxidizes a little, so that it returns to the way it was before...
