Photographer's Note

After posting a few shots from Zierikzee, it's back to Vietnam. And it was also back to Vietnam, because it's a country that holds a special place in my heart & that I'll visit again. We lived there for a couple of years some 20 years ago (time flies), then visited it again 10 years ago and last summer was our third time there. I guess we won't wait another 10 years to visit it again. As I said, time flies.

So, let's go back to Vietnam.

HA GIANG is a province high up in the far north of the country. It has only recently begun to be discovered by tourists and still retains some of that far away border country atmosphere.

THIS PICTURE was shot at Lung Phin market. The boy wears a T-shirt with the Vietnamese flag, which was a gift from the Vietnamese government to reward the pupils in that faraway territory who regularly attended school.

The boy is working at the market, helping carry stuff to and fro. Here he is in between jobs, walking back up to collect his next load.

It's a hard life.
