Photographer's Note

Located in the Red River delta, the region of Hoa Lu is also know as the "Dry Halong Bay" because of the many limestone formations that dot the area. The huge karst edifices jut out of paddy fields and canals providing a unusual and dramatic landscape.

But what I enjoyed as much was the small villages in the area, away from day-trip tourists coming by buses from Hanoi, where time seems to have stopped. No new infrastructures there, no paved roads, no modern bridges, no ugly concrete hotels.

A quiet and simple traditional life that leaves a great impression long after coming back home.
