Photographer's Note

In the eve of the fall...

This has been shot on March 28, 1975, a few hours before the city fell. And this is one of the very last exposures I made using Kodak Tri-X Panchromatic B&W film. This shows people arrived Danang's Thanh Binh Bay after "successfully" escape Communists soldiers in Hue City. Had these people known that President Thieu only gave them a lie on his planned evacuation from Danang "with 5kg of luggage each person", they should stay and surrender. By taking Thieu's promise to run southbound, thousands of them have died over the sea, and hundred thousand of them lost most of their belongings during the run while Thieu gave up his presidency and flew to Taiwan.

Since I got trapped in Danang, this picture has never been turned in to my employer, the Associated Press.
