Photographer's Note
This is the picture I took of my parent's 521-coconuttree farm in Lang Co Village, using Kodak Tri-X film.
Today, Lang Co is a beach resort that has been frequently photographed by many travelers, but between 1968 thru 1975, it was unsafe to live. The communists came to promote their guerrilla warfare to take over control but we refused to be “liberated”. As a result, we decided to run away to Danang city and abandoned everything to trade for freedom. In other word, we voted by feet, leaving the liberators behind.
From 1971 to 1975, I was a combat-photographer working for the Associated Press. In one of the daily trips to the battlefield, I asked the pilot of the helicopter to cut across above my farm so I can snap a couple of exposures. It was dangerous to do so but he agreed.
A relative of mine just found this old 8 x 10 enlargement and sent to me. Sorry that after such a long period, the surface of photo was badly damaged. However, this is the only copy that survived the war.

Hello Ngy - a photo with a really fascinating history to it, thank you for sharing. Especially considering what it has been through, it is in remarkably good shape.

This is an extraordinary photo, which history is far more important than the technical issue, and now you have it digital, so no further problem. I like you measured the area by the number of coconut-trees and not sq.mtr. or ha.

Hello Ngy,
This is an excellent historical shot, and it helps to convey the words written in your note. I also have relatives who had to flee their homeland, leaving everything behind, and I can feel the sense of loss when viewing this scene.
