Photographer's Note

Chor Minor is probably the most photographed structure in Bukhara with its 4 towers (not minarets) with startling blue ceramic domes. It was built as a gate house for a now destroyed madrasa and opened in 1807.
I've selected 2 views that are a little different to the usual photos. I posted one of the standard photos 4 years ago.
The main photo shows the front entrance with the rear towers being only just visible. If you look closely at the right hand tower at the base of the blue it says 1968. I can't find out what that was for and at first I thought that it was when one of the towers collapsed but that wasn't until 1995 (since rebuilt).
The WS photo shows the mosque from a side road and clearly shows all 4 towers.

Hello Ian,
The towers are nicely arranged in the WS, but I still prefer the main photo where we see the entrance and a few persons. Both photos are beautifully clear and colourful.
Best regards,
Gert

Hi Ian,
The presence of the persons has an effect of scale. The point of view is showing the details of the Chor Minor Mosque. THe light is enhancing the beauty of the colors. Have a nice day.

Hi Ian,
Those blue domes are truly original. In fact your whole Uzbekistan series offers views that would be very hard to find elsewhere. Wide angle view works well. I guess you had to correct the perspective quite a bit.

Hello Ian, I remembered the fake storks' nest on one of the towers. It is why I looked at my archive. I also noticed that in my photos there is no date 1968. I was there just a year later. Nice close view of the entrance. I liked Chor Minor very much.

Hi Ian,
I am not surprised this is a very photographed structure.
I would take tons of photos of it as well.
The blue color of the towers is so characteristic, I remember other structures in other towns in Uzbekistan are similarly blue but the design of this structure is quite unique.
Fantastic structure, excellent reportage,
M

Hello Ian,
These Central Asian mosques are certainly very different from those found in Turkey. The minarets don't even have balconies (sherefe) for the müezzin to call the faithful to prayer.
