Photographer's Note
A touch of gold from Samarkand.
I think it is one of the most beautiful altars I have ever seen. This is taken inside of the mosque at Registan Square.
I would have loved to make the photo wider but I had to correct sligth prospective distortion (due to small lense) that took some bits off sides. If anyone is near Samarkand with a strong lense I would be forever indebted to you for a more professional picture of this breathtaking sight.

The image I think is little out of focus !
The detail of the top part is not clearly
visible ! But from the lower part I could
feel how brilliant the art is !
best,

Really well framed. Its interesting to compare this 'altar' (mihrab?) with ones from other places. Mosques in India, Eqypt, Morocco and Moorish Spain follow the same design and incorporate the same elements but each has a twist - a different colour or set of patterns or being constructed out of different materials. Its the differences that make this Samarkandi mosque really special - the blue and the gold, etc.

Yes we call this MEHRAAB and the same design is used for the entrance of many holy places as per your explanation there is not need to talk about but it is beautifully framed..

Terrific photo Olga, you've framed it very well. The colors and repeating shapes are very pleasing. You've handled the low light situation to bring out the detail...
Very nicely done.
All the best to you.

Nice picture. Wonderful intresting altar. Nice golden, shiny colours. But I think you should crop a bit more of the right.
Great shot!

Hi Olga,
I am one of the guys who really enjoy this picture. I wish I had a larger one and offer it to you, but I have never been
in Central Asia.. Not yet I hope ..
What I like most is the glittering of the central part, and the sharpness I don't believe it's out of focus. Just a small question, do they allow tripods inside sacred places ? Keep going - Izzet

This mihrab is the most beautiful I've ever seen! Breathtaking beauty. Hvala Olga.

Very ornamental Olga. Its rich in architects and traditions. Well centered. Golden frame is perfect.
