A Turkmen can be identified anywhere by the traditional "telpek" hats, which are large sheepkin hats that resemble afros. it may be black or white and is typically very shaggy. men wear high, shaggy sheepskin hats and deep-red robes over white shirts.
"Telpek" plays a major role in Turkmen national menswear. it serves as an original criterion of man's figure beauty, personifies pride and nobleness, helps to develop a handsome bearing and graceful movements. "A hat is worn not for warmth but for honor.. If you have no one to talk to, talk to your papakha (telpek).. " they say in Turkmenistan.

Türkmen milli kıyafetlerinin içinde en dikkat çekenlerden biri erkeklerin başlarına giydiklerie “Silkme Telpek”tir. “Silkme Telpek” yünü kesilmemiş koyun derisinden yapılır, siyah veya beyaz renklidir. Genellikle yaşı büyük olanlar siyah, gençler ise beyaz telpek giyerler. "şapka sıcak tutması için değil, onur için giyilir.. eğer konuşacak kimsen yoksa telpeğinle konuş.." der Turkmenler.. Türkmen erkeklerinin giydiği “Gırmızı kaftan" yalnızca bir kıyafet olmayıp bununla beraber milliliğin bir sembolüdür.

Hello Ayfer,
He looks very amused at having his picture taken. His telpek is truly impressive and this must be among the more original headgears I know of. It's interesting that you went to Turkmenistan, which I understand is a very peculiar country, rarely seen on TE. Can Turks and Turkmens understand each other?

Hello dear Ayfer,
his laugh is so relaxed, sincere and heartwarming, it could fix anybody's mood:) I like very much the 3D effect provided mainly by his luminous telpek. All the textures look so natural and contribute to the immediacy of the impression we get. The backdrop offers good contrast and is attractive but not comprehensible enough to distract from the hero and his hat. Congratulations and thank you!
