Photographer's Note

Life in a crowded Asian city can be very hectic at times. Fortunately for those living in Taipei, the MRT (subway) system offers a welcome break from the crazy traffic and streets in the above-ground world.

The system is without question the cleanest, safest and most efficient subway system I've ever ridden on. The residents of Taipei seem to have a real sense of pride about the system, and have gone out of their way to keep it clean - not something that Taipei can often brag about.

While waiting for my train to arrive, I noticed these two people waiting -- I liked the simple contrasts of them -- one wearing a skirt, the other pants ... one standing perfectly still, the other shuffling her feet a little. With no time to set up a tripod, I simply placed the camera on the floor and made this exposure. As I was near the rear of the station, the train was entering at top speed, making the blur more pronounced than it would have been elsewhere in the station.
