Photographer's Note

continuing my little public transport theme...
we've had trains and busses, now it's time for...the mighty tuktuk!

The tuktuk or three-wheeler or auto rikshaw or autorick, bajaj, rick, tricycle, mototaxi, or baby a motorized version of the traditional pulled rickshaw or cycle rickshaw. They are an essential form of urban transport in many developing countries, particularly in many Eastern countries.

Bajaj is a major Indian vehicle manufacturer started by Jamnalal Bajaj in the 1930s. They make and export automobiles, scooters, motorcycles and the auto rickshaw, or tuktuk.

Be it in crowded city centers (if you can avoid the exhaust fumes) or on lonesome countryside roads, the tuktuk is a great way to travel. For kids tuktuk rides are a highlight on any trip in the Far-East. They offer an easy, convenient and personalized way to get from A to B, plus many people try to make a living driving them.

I hope their governments make the wise decision to promote them rather than try to ban them from public roads to make more space for large busses, trucks and private cars, as is argued sometimes, mainly by major transport companies and rich people with big cars.
