Photographer's Note

Recently, quite by accident I found this place. Ive actually been hunting for these older neighborhoods, hoping that Seoul still had them and that not everything has been, um, "developed". I place the word developed in quotations because the new developments all lack any personality or character. All identical high rise apartment buildings and nearly identical neighborhoods. But recently, as I said, qyite by accident I found this neighborhood. And the minute I saw it I was floored. The place is situated on 3 or 4 such hills as you see in the background. It looks like a massive ant hill with people living in old houses literally right on top of each other on steep slopes. Its also a real maze. You can really get lost walking up and down those hills or climbing many steep stairs.

And thats the inspiration for the title. This man is more like an ant, one among thousands who live in a house on one of these ant hills.

Taken very early on a Sunday morning. Most of the ants were still sleeping.
