Photographer's Note
The North Korean coast is just 12 km north of this beach, located on the north east coast of Baengnyeondo (Island). Shown here, is a triple defence line of spiky poles, against any potential amphibious invasion. To the left, just offshore, is Mulbeombawi (rock), with 300 protected grey spotted seals. Too far away to get a decent zoom shot, but close enough, that their plaintive cries broke the silence, & only added to the surreal atmosphere. "Signs on the barbed-wire fences along the shoreline, say “Mines.”"
The map in this link, shows just how close Baengnyeong Island is to North Korea.

I'm surprised that you are allowed to photograph this. I like the use of the panoramic format which helps emphasises the curves of the beach and defence lines. Also, the soft light and colours.

Hi Chris,
We do not have such things on the beaches in Canada. The diagonal line of the poles have a graphical effect. The point of view takes our eyes toward the rock is giving depth to the composition. The reflections in the water are assets to the composition. The cloudy sky does not affect the colors, the low light has a good effect on them. have a nice day.

Les deux pays frères ennemis sont à l'avant-plan de l'actualité en ce moment. Ton image témoigne bien de ces tensions entre les 2 Corée. Ces lignes de défense s'étalent à l'infini.

This is a great panoramic view of the well defended beach. The lines of spears lead the eye through the shot nicely. The lighting and colors are great with excellent sharpness and detail.

A very interesting picture in the documentary mode. The spikes look like guns pointed heavenwards. Hope the seals get protected with this mechanism in place. A good informative note as well
