Photographer's Note

A celebration of sorts for me today. I picked up the new Canon 5D a few weeks ago, but after selling my Canon 300D I was left with only a 75-300mm lens. After a few days of investigating on the net, I finally decided upon a new wideangle lens (the Canon 17-40mm F/4 L USM). Not being able to resist, I left the office during lunch to go pick it up. I was heading out after work for a couple drinks at our usual watering hole (the first building on the left- background), but I was determined to get a few shots with the new lens before getting there!

This area is called Boat Quay, formerly a renowned trading port filled with merchants- now occupied by a wide array of restaurants and bars to catering to tourists and locals alike. As this shot was taken right outside my office, you can see the dangerous proximity of our local pub! Hahaha...

Like any major city, Singapore has quite a few stray cats. They're quite a common sight here along the Singapore River, where they are fed by some of the local "Bum Boat" operators.

As the LCD screen on the Canon 5D is only good for playing back the image; this shot was a bit of a guessing game as I was unable to see through the view finder- holding it just outside the gap in the railings.

I hope you like the photo...
