Photographer's Note

The Image
A street vendor selling ice-cream in a pushcart, once widely seen all over Singapore, now an anachronistic novelty.

The vendor is a small time franchisee of the Walls Ice Cream Company.

In the days when few of us had spare cash to buy tubs of Hagan-Daz and even fewer had fridges; the arrival of the Walls Ice Cream Man is a real treat. The clang of his bell would draw out a wave of excited kids from all over the neighbourhood.

You can have your ice-cream on a cone, between slices of bread, or gripped between 2 piece of wafer biscuits; just tell the man your preference.

Everyone goes away smiling, funny how little it takes to make a kid happy in those days.

In this image, I wanted the focus to be totally on the Walls Man and I de-sat the background. For a vintage feel, I decided to add grains to the picture.

Hopefully, this projects the feel of nostalgia that I wanted for the image.
